Major Requirements

The specific requirements for The Classics major are:

Eight courses in Greek and Latin, at least six of which must be at the 300 level or higher, and CLAS 401 . Students must demonstrate proficiency in both languages by taking at least two 300-level courses in each language.
Majors in the classics are encouraged to take at least one 400-level Latin seminar, and those intending to pursue graduate study should do so by the fall of their senior year.
They are also encouraged to take at least two CLAS courses.

GPA Requirement

No departmental course with a grade of less than C– is credited toward a major. For graduation, the minimum GPA required in courses counting toward a major is 2.00 (C). All departmental courses taken are used to calculate the major GPA for the classics and classical studies.
