HIST 331 - Medieval Italy, c. 1000 - 1500 (EU) Italy in the Middle Ages comprised an immense variety of cultures and societies, from papal Rome to republican Venice, from Arab and Norman Sicily to the commercial cities of the north. This course examines the politics, economy, and religion of the Italian peninsula from 1000 to 1500, including the Italian Renaissance - the great flowering of thought, literature, and art that began in Florence in the 14th century.
