CLAS 253E - Excavating Ancient Greeks and Romans in Southern Italy (Extended Study) This extended study allows students to approach the history and achievements of the western Greeks through direct examination of physical settings and material culture. Students first travel to several of the main archaeological sites in Sicily and southern Italy that they have studied in the spring semester seminar, , and then participate in archaeological excavations that lie in the shadow of some of the most impressive temples built by the ancient Greeks at Paestum.
