POSC 214 - Comparative Politics: East and Southeast Asia (CO)

Introduces students to the politics of East and Southeast Asia. Students compare and contrast the diverse political and economic evolution of countries across the region by examining the historical development of state structures, regime types, and the development of institutions and organizations such as parties and civil society groups. Students focus on the experiences of the East Asian “early developers” (Japan, Korea, Singapore, and Taiwan), the transition to democracy across the region, and consider the emergence of China as an economic and political power.
