REST 344 - Imperial Russia and the Soviet Revolution (SO) Russian history from Napoleon’s defeat to the collapse of the Soviet Empire since 1989. Topics studied include the autocracy of Nicholas I, the Great Reforms, the emergence of revolutionary movements, industrialization and a changing society, the revolutions and the Bolshevik 1920s, the rise of Stalinism, and World War II and the Cold War. It concludes with the disintegration of the U.S.S.R. into its component parts. (SO)
