ARTS 201 - Digital Studio: Code, Recipes, Spells An introduction to digital art that covers select topics from a variety of digital art practices that find a legacy in both the 20th-century avant-garde and a feminist history of code and creativity. Students consider the generative power of indeterminacy, recipes, code, algorithm, and procedure. Dynamic compositions generated through code or electronics may then be processed through any number of tools for fabrication, such as a digital loom, a 3D printer that prints clay and paper pulp, or a laser cutter. As a result of iteration, remixing, and collaboration, students reconsider the nature of authorship and artistry, and come to see art more as a process than a thing, more dynamic than static. Students are encouraged to explore concepts and programs beyond the basics; group and individual projects will require both rigorous concept development and proficiency in technology. The Little Hall Digital Studio is equipped with Macintosh computers and relevant software.
