MATH 312 - Math Modeling: Social Sciences How do we translate problems from the world into solvable mathematical problems? Mathematical modeling is the art of creating mathematical problems whose solutions are useful for real world problems. Methods such as scaling, qualitative analysis, chaos and limits of predictability, Markov chains and simple random models, and agent based models and optimization of non-parametric functions are discussed. Applications considered arise from economics, political science, and sociology.
