HIST 303 - The Nation on Trial, 1787 - 1861 (US) This course examines the development of republican institutions of government and political parties; retention of colonial society and customs; aspects of the social history of the American people (including slaves, immigrants, and women); and the political crises leading to the creation of the Republican Party, the secession of the South, and the Civil War.
