EDUC 231 - Inquiry Based Teaching in the Schools An opportunity to connect theory to pragmatic issues of teaching. Students work at least three hours per week throughout the semester in a local middle school with students identified as being at risk of failing state examinations. The course connects these questions: How do students learn? What should students learn? How do we determine what students have learned? These questions are imbedded in genuine contexts of a school, which is itself working in state and federal educational bureaucracies. The course satisfies 40 of 100 required school-based fieldwork hours for students seeking teaching certification.
